Ways to Select The Right Coating Thickness Gauge

This world has been filled with technology-based stuff which is good for the industry and also gives more efficiency on relation with things. But these improvements aren't easily understood by many and this article will determine the things you need to consider in choosing the right Elcometer Coating Thickness Gauge or dft instruments.

There are things to question such as:

First, are you going to apply it on a wet or dry coating because if it is wet, then stay tuned for future articles. Second, are you going to coat a metallic or non metallic substrate? If your decision is within thosenon metallic substrate such as wood, plaster and others, then subscribe within the page.

Now, this article will emphasize on the application to a dry film and metal substrate. Below are things to ponder and the questions have already been answered.

Understand that if your application is within a blasting environment where the substrate has been rough, please proceed to the next article. But if you will be applying on a smooth substrate such as automotive coating environment, I can't cover it here..

Next is to know if you are using measurements on Ferrous eg Steel, a Non ferrouseg aluminum or if you are both. Once you know, it is time to determine if you will be needing an F, NF or FNF unit.

On the technology side, are the paint test instruments requiring you to download on a computer? If it is no, a Basic Model ei B will be efficient for the application but if it is yes, then we must consider the following options. Standard unit which is 1500 readings in 1 bath or the top unit which is 150,000 readings wherein there's 2500 batches. If is great that the ElcoMaster 2.0 software has been released and will be ready to provide Standard and Top models.

Do you know much on the integral ie I or a separate probe ie S models. To emphasize, Integral probe is part of the unit and has been more famous since it can be used with once handed operation and the increased strength. Meanwhile, Separate probe model is said to be better for more difficult access in certain places such as smaller areas. You can also use the Elcometer scan probe if you are thinking of using separate probe. Lastly is the thickness you will be measuring. Know that Scale 1 is within 1500 microns only, while Scale 2 can go up to 5000 microns and Scale 3 have the largest which is 13000 microns.
